An Emacs function that tells you how long it takes to read things.

For a short while I was recording educational videos and audiobooks from scripts written in Emacs. A key piece of information I needed but didn't have access to was the time it would take to read these when recording. Emacs does provide the useful count-words function, but there was no read-time.
Reading speeds average around 5 words per second, dropping to 3 for careful speech, and rising above ten for speed readers. For small word counts one may easily divide the word count by ones speed to find the reading time, but it is not easy for larger word counts.
read-time does it for you. Called interactively, it returns the time to read the whole buffer or the region.

And one may specify a reading speed by setting read-time-words-per-sec, or by providing a third argument.

I hope you find the package useful!
